Restoration and Enhancement
Many Network members are providing conservation services such as restoration,
pulling weeds, brush removal, tree thinning and planting, planting native
plants and the removal of invasive species and land management in publicly
owned preserves. Because they are often community and volunteer based,
these partnerships both save taxpayers’ funds and create greater
certainty that lands will be preserved in perpetuity for the benefit
of future generations of San Diegans. For example, Preserve
Calvera recently completed a tree planting project- re-planting
coast live oak trees in three local riparian corridors where the native
habitat is declining from heavy public use and upstream development.
Over 100 local residents participated in this project and two local
Boy Scout groups are signed up for their “Adopt a Tree”
project that will continue hand watering these trees for the next two
years.
