About SDCRN

Fallbrook Land Conservancy

Mission
To preserve and enhance the rural character and natural beauty of our area.

History
Formed in 1988. FLC has acquired and manages more than 600 acres of permanently protected open space, maintains riding and hiking trails along the Santa Margarita River, and has planted thousands of trees in the greater Fallbrook area. We also own and maintain the historic Palomares House which serves as our office and a community meeting place.

Who is involved?
The organization is governed by a board of directors and supported by more than 1,000 members. We employ a full-time preserve manager and a part-time helper, and a part-time administrative assistant. Six thousand volunteer hours were contributed last year including Eagle Scout projects and a Hispanic youth group from a local church.

Projects
In addition to our primary activity of preserving and managing open space, FLC has committees and groups involved in a wide range of projects, including tree planting, invasive plant removal, native plants and wildflower revegetation, trail building, leading hikes and trail rides, and a group that promotes thoughtful use of one of our most popular preserves by hikers, bikers, and dog owners.

See our newsletter at http://www.sdlcc.org/flc for details and pictures.

Goals
The protection and management of open space, both natural and agricultural, in Fallbrook and the surrounding area, and the establishment of a network of trails throughout the community.

Why we joined the Conservation Resources Network
To benefit from shared experiences, and to increase the voice and options, locally and regionally, of the conservation community in San Diego County.

How are we unique?
We have been successfully preserving, owning, and managing land in North County for 14 years.

Wish List
We would like to see a more coordinated, knowledgeable, and effective voice concerning conservation planning issues in San Diego County. We would also like to see a more equitable share of state funds become available for Southern California land trusts.

Business Partnerships?
a. Partnership with Heights of Pala Mesa LLC. They deeded us a natural open space and we manage it as a mitigation bank with funds they provide from the sale of mitigation credits.
b. Partnership with the County of San Diego to manage land.
c. Partnership with the Fallbrook Public Utility District to manage a trail system on their land.
d. Partnership with Mission Resource Conservation District to remove arundo and other invasive plants from our preserves.
e. Partnerships with many property owners in the downtown area of Fallbrook to care for trees.
planted by a committee of the FLC.
f. We hold a conservation easement on farmland owned and managed by the Tierra Miguel Foundation.

Education Partnerships?
We have partnerships with elementary and secondary schools that involve growing and planting of trees.
